About the Bolt Torque Calculator
This calculator looks up a general reference torque value for tightening a standard bolt, based on its diameter and SAE strength grade, for clean, dry, unlubricated threads.
Formula: Recommended Torque = Base Torque (by bolt diameter) × Grade Factor (Grade 2 ≈ 0.65, Grade 5 = 1.0, Grade 8 ≈ 1.4)
These are general reference values only — always defer to the manufacturer's or engineer's torque specification for critical or load-bearing connections, and reduce torque by roughly 20-30% if the threads are lubricated or plated.
