About the Plywood Calculator

This calculator finds how many sheets of plywood or OSB you need to cover a subfloor, wall sheathing or roof deck, based on the total area and the standard 4ft × 8ft sheet size.

Formula: Area = Length × Width; Sheets Needed = (Area × (1 + Waste %)) ÷ Sheet Coverage

This is a straight area-based estimate and doesn't account for sheet layout or offset seams — add extra waste allowance for irregular room shapes, and always stagger sheet joints across framing members for structural strength.
