About the Hammock Hang Calculator
Hammock campers widely recommend hanging the suspension straps at roughly a 30-degree angle from horizontal, which gives a comfortable amount of sag without the hammock feeling like a tight board or a deep taco.
Formula: Rope per Side = (Anchor Distance − Hammock Length) ÷ (2 × cos(Angle)); Sag Height = Rope per Side × sin(Angle)
This is a simplified straight-line approximation of the hang geometry — real hammocks curve, but this gets you in the right range for choosing rope length and anchor spacing.
