About the Horsepower Calculator

Horsepower and torque are related through engine speed. At exactly 5,252 RPM, horsepower and torque (in lb-ft) are always numerically equal — that constant comes from converting rotational torque into a power unit.

Formula: Horsepower = (Torque in lb-ft × RPM) ÷ 5,252

Use this to estimate peak horsepower from a dyno torque reading, or to understand how power changes across an engine's RPM range.
