About the Moving Boxes Calculator
Estimating moving boxes ahead of time avoids a last-minute scramble. This calculator uses a common rule of thumb of roughly 8 boxes per room, including a kitchen and living room in addition to bedrooms.
Formula: Total Boxes = (Bedrooms + 2) × Average Boxes per Room, split roughly 40% small, 40% medium and 20% large.
Heavier items like books and dishes pack better in small boxes, while lighter bulky items like linens and pillows suit large boxes — adjust the split to match what you're packing.
