About the Factoring Trinomials Calculator
Factoring a trinomial x² + bx + c means finding two numbers p and q so that (x + p)(x + q) expands back to the original trinomial.
Formula: p and q satisfy p + q = b and p × q = c. They can be found as the negatives of the roots of x² + bx + c = 0, using the quadratic formula.
If b² − 4c is negative, the trinomial cannot be factored using real numbers.
