About the Concrete Block Calculator

This calculator estimates the number of standard concrete masonry units (CMUs) needed to build a block wall. Standard blocks measure 8in × 16in on the face, and once mortar joints are factored in, roughly 1.125 blocks cover each square foot of wall.

Formula: Wall Area = Length × Height; Blocks Needed = Wall Area × Blocks per Sq Ft × (1 + Waste %)

Add 5-10% extra for cutting, breakage and corner blocks. This estimate doesn't subtract openings for doors or windows, so subtract those areas first for a tighter estimate.
