About the Gravel Calculator

This calculator finds the volume and approximate weight of loose material — gravel, crushed stone, sand or mulch — needed to cover a rectangular area at a chosen depth, such as a driveway base, garden path or landscaping bed.

Formula: Cubic Feet = Length × Width × (Depth ÷ 12); Cubic Yards = Cubic Feet ÷ 27; Tons = Cubic Yards × Density

Most gravel yards sell by the ton, so use the density figure on your supplier's product page for the most accurate weight — density varies by material and how tightly it's compacted.
