About the Fence Calculator

This calculator estimates how many posts and panels you'll need to fence a yard or property line, based on the total run of fencing and the spacing between posts.

Formula: Sections = Total Length ÷ Post Spacing; Posts = Sections + 1 (plus one extra post per gate opening)

Standard post spacing is 6-8 ft for wood privacy fencing and up to 10 ft for chain-link. Always round the number of sections up, since a fence line rarely divides evenly.
