About the Square Yards Calculator

This calculator converts a rectangular area from square feet into square yards. It's especially useful when shopping for carpet, artificial turf or fabric-backed materials, which are frequently priced and sold by the square yard rather than the square foot.

Formula: Square Feet = Length × Width; Square Yards = Square Feet ÷ 9 (one square yard equals a 3ft × 3ft area)

For irregular rooms, break the space into rectangles, find the square footage of each, then add them together before converting to square yards. Always add 5-10% extra for seams and pattern matching.
