About the Vinyl Siding Calculator
Like roofing, vinyl siding is sold and estimated in "squares" — units of 100 sq ft. This calculator finds the net wall area to be covered, after subtracting a standard allowance for doors and windows, then converts it to squares.
Formula: Wall Area = (Wall Length × Height) − (Doors × 20) − (Windows × 15); Squares Needed = (Wall Area × (1 + Waste %)) ÷ 100
Measure the total perimeter of the house for wall length, including all exterior walls. Add extra waste for houses with lots of corners, gables or dormers, since more cuts mean more scrap.
