About the Drake Equation for Love Calculator
The original Drake Equation was written in 1961 by astronomer Frank Drake to estimate the number of communicating alien civilizations in our galaxy, by multiplying a starting number through a chain of narrowing probabilities. This calculator borrows that same multiplicative structure for a lighthearted dating estimate instead.
Formula: Estimated Matches = Population × (% Age & Gender Match ÷ 100) × (% Single ÷ 100) × (% Nearby ÷ 100) × (% Attractive ÷ 100) × (% Compatible ÷ 100) × (% Mutual Interest ÷ 100)
Starting from a city or area population, each filter narrows the pool down by an estimated percentage, the same way Drake's original equation narrows down from all stars in the galaxy to just the ones hosting intelligent, communicating life. This is purely for fun and personal reflection, not a scientifically rigorous dating statistic — small changes to any percentage swing the final number dramatically, which is itself the same lesson the real Drake Equation teaches about uncertain estimates.
