About the Percentage of a Percentage Calculator

Taking a percentage of a percentage means multiplying two percentages together as decimals, which produces a smaller combined percentage. For example, 50% of 20% is only 10%, not 70%.

Formula: Combined % = (Percent 1 ÷ 100) × Percent 2 · Result = (Combined % ÷ 100) × Base Value

This shows up when applying two successive discounts or rates, such as a commission taken on a percentage-based fee, or a tax applied to a already-discounted percentage.
