About the Percentage Point Calculator

A percentage point is the simple arithmetic difference between two percentages, while relative percent change describes that same gap as a proportion of the starting percentage. The two are easy to confuse but tell very different stories.

Formula: Percentage Points = Percent 2 − Percent 1 · Relative Change = (Percentage Points ÷ |Percent 1|) × 100

For example, going from 20% to 25% is a 5 percentage point increase, but a 25% relative increase — a distinction that matters in news reporting, interest rates and survey results.
