About the Tetrahedron Volume Calculator
A regular tetrahedron is a pyramid with four identical faces, each an equilateral triangle — the simplest of the Platonic solids. Its volume, surface area and height are all determined by a single edge length. The edge length has its own unit selector, and so does every result — pick centimeters for your input and cubic inches for your volume if that's what you need, and the calculator converts everything automatically.
Formulas: Volume = a³ ÷ (6√2) · Surface Area = √3 × a² · Height = a√(2/3)
The height here is the perpendicular distance from any vertex straight down to the center of the opposite triangular face — the same value used to find the tetrahedron's centroid, and one you can cross-check against the general one-third × base area × height pyramid volume formula.
Regular tetrahedra appear in chemistry (the shape formed by a methane molecule's bonds), crystallography and structural engineering, and they're the shape of the four-sided die used in tabletop gaming.
