Note Frequency Calculator

Find the exact frequency in Hz of any musical note using standard equal-temperament tuning with A4 = 440Hz.

Key 1 is the lowest A on a standard 88-key piano (A0); key 49 is middle A (A4, 440Hz); key 88 is the highest C (C8).

About the Note Frequency Calculator

In standard equal-temperament tuning, every note's frequency is a fixed multiple of A4 (440Hz), the note orchestras traditionally tune to. Each of the 12 semitones in an octave is spaced by the same frequency ratio.

Formula: Frequency = 440 × 2^((n − 49) ÷ 12), where n is the note's position (key number) on an 88-key piano

This formula is the basis for digital tuners, synthesizers and music software. Piano key 49 is A4 by convention, so keys above or below it are simply powers of the twelfth root of two away in frequency.
