About the Crushed Stone Calculator

This calculator estimates the crushed stone needed for a path or compacted base layer, adding extra material up front to account for the settling that occurs once the stone is compacted to its finished depth.

Formula: Cubic Feet = Length × Width × (Depth ÷ 12); Adjusted Volume = Cubic Feet × (1 + Compaction %); Cubic Yards = Adjusted Volume ÷ 27; Tons = Cubic Yards × Density

Loose crushed stone typically compacts down 15-25% of its original volume, so ordering extra up front avoids a second delivery. Base layers under pavers or driveways are commonly compacted in 4-6in lifts for the best density.
