About the Lumber Weight Calculator

This calculator estimates the weight of dimensional lumber by first finding its board footage, then converting to cubic feet and multiplying by a typical dried-wood density for the chosen species.

Formula: Board Feet = (Thickness × Width × Length ÷ 12) × Quantity; Cubic Feet = Board Feet ÷ 12 (since 1 board foot = 1/12 cu ft); Weight = Cubic Feet × Species Density

Species density varies with moisture content — green (unseasoned) lumber can weigh 30-50% more than kiln-dried stock. Use this estimate for planning delivery loads, trailer capacity or structural dead-load calculations, and confirm with your supplier for precise figures.
