About the Metal Weight Calculator

This calculator finds the weight of a rectangular bar, plate or sheet of metal from its dimensions and the density of the material selected. It's handy for estimating shipping weight, load ratings or material cost when metal is priced by the pound.

Formula: Volume (cu in) = Length × Width × Thickness; Weight (lbs) = (Volume ÷ 1728) × Density (lb/cu ft)

These densities are standard reference values for common alloys — actual density can vary slightly by alloy grade. For round stock or pipe, calculate the cross-sectional area separately and substitute it for Length × Width.
