About the Retaining Wall Calculator
This calculator estimates how many blocks you need to build a segmental retaining wall, based on the wall's overall length and height and the face dimensions of the block you're using.
Formula: Blocks per Row = (Wall Length in inches) ÷ Block Width; Rows = (Wall Height in inches) ÷ Block Height; Total Blocks = Blocks per Row × Rows × (1 + Waste %)
This estimate assumes a straight wall with no setback or curves — walls over about 3-4ft typically need geogrid reinforcement and engineered design, and most systems require a buried base course not visible in the finished height.
