Adding and Subtracting Polynomials Calculator

Add or subtract two polynomials of any degree by combining their like terms.

Comma-separated, e.g. "3, 2, -1" means 3x² + 2x − 1
Comma-separated, e.g. "1, -5, 4" means x² − 5x + 4

About the Adding and Subtracting Polynomials Calculator

To add or subtract polynomials, align terms of the same degree and combine their coefficients. Missing degrees are treated as having a coefficient of zero.

Formula: (P ± Q)(x) has each coefficient equal to the corresponding coefficient of P plus or minus the corresponding coefficient of Q.

Enter each polynomial's coefficients from highest degree to constant, separated by commas — shorter lists are automatically padded with zeros at the front.
