About the Synthetic Division Calculator
Synthetic division is a shortcut for dividing a polynomial by a linear factor of the form (x − c). It uses only the coefficients, avoiding the need to write out variables at each step.
Formula: bring down the leading coefficient, then repeatedly multiply by c and add to the next coefficient; the last value produced is the remainder.
If the remainder is zero, then (x − c) is a factor of the polynomial and c is a root — this connects synthetic division directly to the factor theorem.
